The SXM Airport is Reopening on July 1st to North American and European Travelers!

According to the St. Maarten Government, Princess Juliana Airport (SXM) will be reopening! Starting July 1st, North American and European travelers will begin arriving.  The community is encouraged to continue adhering to the proper social distancing. Health and safety protocols will establish guidelines for businesses to maintain a COVID-19 free Sint Maarten. Because of this wonderful news, we will be ready for guests.

Guidelines for Travel to SXM regarding COVID-19

SXM Airport Reopening July 1st. The airport has released requirements and guidelines in place for anyone traveling to St. Maarten. We will be asking all of our guests to follow these rules in order to have a smooth arrival. They are as follows.

1. Covid-19 Testing Prior to Travel

Passengers traveling to St. Martin are recommended to take a Covid-19 test within 72 hours prior to boarding and to provide proof of such upon arrival. We ask all our guests to do this. While the airport may not need proof, it is better to be safe. We want our guests to have a smooth transition to your vacation. So in order to begin this, it will be best to have the test ready to show.

2. Facial Covering inside the Airport at all times

All arriving and departing passengers are required to wear a face mask inside the airport at all times. Many of the airlines are already requiring this, so upon arrival, please keep your mask on until you exit the airport. Our staff will also be wearing a mask when we are interacting with our guests.

3. Health Screening Upon Arrival

Thermal screening and temperature checks upon arrival. Passengers may also be subject to a COVID-19 test. Be prepared to be asked to take a test and follow any requests airport employees ask of you. This will ensure a smooth arrival and the safety of all.

SXM Airport’s Added Safety Measures

1. Restricted Access inside Princess Juliana Airport

The airport will be limited to passengers and employees only. This measure matches what we have done prior. All our drivers meet you outside the airport. You will find them easily with a sign.

2. The Airport has Increased Sanitation

SXM Airport has increased sanitation and disinfection of all areas with human contact and transmission. We also recommend our guest to bring 3oz bottles of hand sanitizer as well for your own personal safety.

3. Airport Employees will wear Protective Gear

All SXM Airport personnel with direct contact with visitors are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment or PPEs. This will increase the safety of everyone.

Welcome back to SXM!

We will be continuing to learn more about the steps taken as we move forward. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to ask our team. You can contact us anytime at reservations@sxmsir.com or by using any of our social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).

St. Maarten has zero active COVID-19 cases

This has been a hard-fought uphill battle, but St. Maarten is pleased to announce they now have zero active cases of COVID-19. The last case has been recorded as cured. Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs said “I believe the people of St. Maarten are more aware of the dangers of this virus and should continue to guard themselves and their families by continuing to practice proper social distancing as much as possible out in public. As we slowly reopen to persons returning home, and the risk that poses, we must remain vigilant to minimize our risk of infection on the island, seeing our limited resources.”

Is the SXM Airport Open?

While the airport has not opened it’s doors up to travelers from the US yet, we believe the next steps will be coming soon. The first step was to control the virus on the island, and the next step will be to keep it off the island. We at St. Martin Sotheby’s Realty will be following all precautions in our properties for when our guests return to the island to ensure a safe experience.
